We review the patient’s full medical history — including current medication, allergies and systemic health issues — to identify any factors that may impair osseointegration (the bonding of the implant to the bone).

We perform a cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan, a 3D X-ray that provides precise anatomical measurements of bone volume and density.

We use specialised software with CBCT data to virtually plan the positions, angles and dimensions of the implants, to achieve optimal surgical and prosthetic results.

2. Understanding the dental implant placement process: from surgery to osseointegration

Dental implant placement is a minimally invasive surgical procedure performed under local infiltration anaesthesia.

A titanium implant is inserted into the jawbone to act as a tooth root.
Osseointegration, the gradual fusion of bone and implant, typically takes several weeks to three months.

The decision to provide a temporary restoration and the timing of this depend on:

– The patient’s age
– The strength of the masticatory muscles
– Bruxism habits (teeth grinding)
– Initial stability upon implant placement

Types of temporary restorations include:

– A fixed crown screwed onto the implant

This crown is made from zirconia ceramic and attaches to your dental implants with screws.
