Procedure

1. Comprehensive assessment and planning for dental implants: ensuring optimal results
We perform a thorough assessment of oral health before implant placement, evaluating the condition of the teeth and gums, the potential for bruxism (teeth grinding), and the patient’s occlusal (jaw) alignment and movement.

  • We take clinical photographs to guide the design of the final teeth, ensuring a natural appearance and avoiding an artificial look.
  • We review the patient’s full medical history — including current medication, allergies and systemic health issues — to identify any factors that may impair osseointegration (the bonding of the implant to the bone).
  • We perform a cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan, a 3D X-ray that provides precise anatomical measurements of bone volume and density.
  • We use specialised software with CBCT data to virtually plan the positions, angles and dimensions of the implants, to achieve optimal surgical and prosthetic results.

 Key points:

  • A comprehensive assessment (oral + medical) minimises surgical risks and promotes implant success.
  • Clinical photography is essential for achieving natural and aesthetically pleasing results.
  • CBCT-guided virtual planning increases precision in implant placement and long-term stability.
  • Dental implant placement is a minimally invasive surgical procedure performed under local infiltration anaesthesia.
  • A titanium implant is inserted into the jawbone to act as a tooth root.
  • Osseointegration, the gradual fusion of bone and implant, typically takes several weeks to three months.

The decision to provide a temporary restoration and the timing of this depend on:

– The patient’s age
– The strength of the masticatory muscles
– Bruxism habits (teeth grinding)
– Initial stability upon implant placement

Types of temporary restorations include:

– A fixed crown screwed onto the implant
– A removable acrylic denture
– A resin-bonded bridge fixed to the adjacent teeth

  • Customizing the temporary restoration based on individual clinical factors supports optimal function, aesthetics, and patient comfort during osseointegration.
  • This crown is made from zirconia ceramic and attaches to your dental implants with screws.
  • Because it contains no metal, there are no dark lines, and the color can be matched closely to your other teeth or dental work.
  • At your first appointment, we will check the color, shape, fit, and position of the crown before placing it permanently.
  • Once you are happy with it, we will cement the crown in place so it looks and works like a natural tooth.
  • Maintaining standard dental hygiene (brushing, flossing and regular check-ups) is essential to preserve the health of the surrounding teeth and gum tissue.

Tooth-supported fixed bridge

– Preparation of healthy adjacent teeth is necessary to accommodate crowns.

– Provides stability, favorable aesthetics, functional effectiveness, and a relatively straightforward fitting process.

– Fails to prevent bone resorption in the edentulous region.

– Tooth reduction can result in sensitivity or necessitate root canal therapy.

– The longevity of the bridge is contingent upon the sustained health of the abutment teeth.

Removable partial denture

– Represents a non-permanent solution that is susceptible to instability and inadequate fit.

– Relies on oral mucosal support, which may compromise masticatory function and patient comfort.

– Constructed from acrylic resin, which demonstrates limited long-term durability and biocompatibility.

– Acrylic resin may become porous over time, leading to increased wear and potential hygiene concerns.
